Newmarket
"Minimalist, warm and inviting" was the brief for this contemporary home.
A mix of rusts and blues were featured throughout the home to create a fun yet calming home environment.
With this in mind, we opted for slimline silhouettes and a mix of light timber, leather, and soft fabrics.
Gallery
Our Newmarket client gave us a three-word brief for their contemporary home: minimalist, warm, and inviting. We designed custom joinery, made by Cabinet House, and looked after the furniture, artwork, soft furnishings, and styling for the whole house. For a minimalist brief we opted for slimline silhouettes and a mix of light timber, leather, and soft fabrics, then ran rusts and blues through every room so the house feels fun and calm at the same time.
Living Spaces
A tan leather sofa sits beside the kitchen across wide oak floorboards, so the living room and kitchen read as one space. Checked feather-filled cushions dress the sofa below a minimalist textured canvas. By the sheer-curtained doors, a leather sling armchair and a rust ottoman look out to the courtyard lounge. It's the best seat in the house for a slow Saturday.
Upstairs in the open plan home office space, a khaki linen 1.5 seater sofa and a timber side table are reflected in a tall floor mirror. Opt for a floor mirror in a smaller footprint minimalist room like this one - it adds light and depth without adding another thing to look at.
Dining
The dining table and chairs sit beside the fluted island, with a fiddle leaf fig tree tucked in the corner nearby. We love a plant in a spot like this (an empty corner is such a missed chance!), and the fig brings some green into all that timber.
Bedrooms
The bedrooms are where the rusts and blues have the most fun. In the master bedroom, a rounded bedhead takes mustard cushions and a checked throw, with lamps on the oak bedsides. In another room, a timber bedhead is dressed in rust and denim bedding below a grey abstract canvas. A rattan bedhead gets blush and striped cushions and a ceramic lamp, and another timber bedhead is finished with a teal velvet cushion beside a round oak bedside table. Each one is different, but the palette ties them together.
