Carindale
A mix of timber tones, rattan, mixed metals, linen, and wool were the main material palette, applied to contemporary silhouettes for the perfect balance of curated and cosy.
Our beautiful clients engaged us to help transform their bright white, contemporary home into a layered, cosy, and calming sanctuary – something that was more in line with their preferred modern farmhouse aesthetic.
We designed this home with intention: grounding the vast contemporary open plan spaces with layers of textures and materials.
Gallery
Our Carindale client came to us with a bright white contemporary home and a growing family. They loved the modern farmhouse look, but the house felt a little too crisp for it. The brief: make it layered, cosy, and calm, without fighting the architecture. We looked after the furniture, window furnishings, feature lighting, and styling, and softened the house room by room with timber tones, rattan, mixed metals, linen, and wool.
The Entry
The entry sets the tone from the front door. A built-in bench seat gives everyone somewhere to sit and pull their shoes off (a must for a growing family). Beside, a timber console stands over a woven basket that swallows the bits and pieces that come in the door. Sorted!
Living and Dining
Big contemporary open plan spaces like this can feel a little cold, so we grounded them in layers of texture and kept the shapes contemporary. A low timber coffee table anchors the living area, with a framed picture wall nearby that gives the open plan room a personal feel.
Under the raked ceiling, an oak dining table and woven-seat chairs sit against sheer curtains, with the kitchen beyond. Opt for sheers in a tall, open room like this one - they soften the light and the long walls at the same time, without hiding the view. We think the warm timber against the white is what makes this space work.
The Bedroom
The main bedroom is the calmest room in the house. An upholstered bed dressed in caper-coloured linen sits beside Rachel Donath burl timber bedside tables, and a black vessel with a posy of white blossom finishes it off. The olive brings a little of the outdoors in and warms the white walls, while the burl adds the pattern and depth a pared back room needs. It's the kind of bedroom that would have us in bed by eight on a weeknight (guilty!).
Thank you so much again for creating such beautiful and calming spaces for our growing family! We feel so blessed every day. You are both immensely talented and we cannot recommend you enough!
