We're Loving Lumbar Cushions. Here are our top picks.

One of our most recent interior decorator Brisbane-based projects is for a contemporary luxury interior, and while working on the selections for this project - in particular the bedroom styling - we noticed how much we love a good lumbar cushion. We think lumbar cushions (and for this exercise, we'll selfishly include a few bolsters too) gives a contemporary and pared-back look and can elevate any kind of interior. And the longer, the better! Here are our top pics:

1. Saarde - Velvet Bolster Cushion in Chocolate

   Who doesn't like the sound of velvety chocolate? Count us in! The richness of this colour along with the luxurious velvet texture will instantly elevate a bed or sofa. We can picture this against a stunning denim-coloured linen sofa for a luxurious nod to the 70's that is right on trend for interior design in 2025.

2. West Elm - Modern Silk Stripe Bolster Cushion

   A stunning striped pattern in cumin and earthy tones make for an eye-catching statement - not to mention the silk construction for added elegance. Pair it with plain bedding to really let it "pop"!

3. Cultiver - Thatch Linen Cushion

   This heavyweight European linen cushion has such a beautiful texture. It's perfect for those that love more of an organic looking interior design aesthetic. With this one it's all about the layering of tones and textures, so think of a mix of warm-toned bedding, off-whites, and cosy draped throws.

4. Eadie Lifestyle - Marina Long Lumbar in Off White with Ink Stripe

   The perfect cushion that gives a relaxed vibe without adding too much visual clutter. We can picture this on a crisp white linen slipcover sofa, which could go down a coastal or modern farmhouse look (depending on how you style the rest of the space). Or how gorgeous would it look in a boys' bedroom!

5. Saarde - Chizgi Structured Bolster Cushion

   Okay, okay, we're obviously suckers for stripes, and this long bolstered cushion is no exception!

6. TOAST - Velvet Bolster Cushion in Hellebore/Natural

   A muted hand-dyed velvet with neutral slubby linen reverse for the perfect mix of luxury and casual-cool (kinda like this interior design and decoration duo??).

7. Provincial Home Living - Montauk Bolster Cushion

   Now, we couldn't decide between the forest green or ink piping - both are equally eye-catching. The combination of the natural linen, contrast piping and the classic silhouette of the bolster creates a kind of casual elegance, and could so easily be used in homes that have a blend of classic elements.

8. Pampa - Sara XL Lumbar Cushion in Sand and Natural

   The thick handwoven Argentinian sheep's wool cushion with sandy-toned check pattern (not a stripe - shocker!) gives a cosy relaxed vibe.
