Today we want to chat to you all about mood lighting and why we think it's an important part of interior design and interior decoration (as well as exterior).
Mood lighting is exactly how it sounds - the point is to induce a calm and serene mood. Ways to introduce mood lighting into your home interior is through the additions of floor lamps, pendant lights, table lamps, wall lights and even dimmable downlights.
Generally speaking, when we are cooking/cleaning/working we need task lighting (bright lights) to help with our sight and concentration, however, once the kids are in bed, the kitchen is clean and it's time to wind down, it's time for mood lighting! Mood lighting is also great for dinner parties, romantic dates and self care nights.
Here are some tips on mood lighting placement:
A floor lamp is one of the easiest and most affordable additions for a living room and is a great idea to fill - and add height to - an empty corner.
If there is no room for a floor lamp in the living room we recommend a side table or sofa table with a table lamp. Alternatively, wall lights or a pendant for a hard-wired option that requires no floor space is another great way to add mood lighting.
Functional lighting is very important in a bathroom but so is mood lighting for those self care nights spent in the tub. Consider wall lights either side of the mirror or a feature pendant - you won't regret it!
A way of highlighting some of your favourite artworks is to install a feature wall light above. This also works above built-in shelving units.
